🚀 Getting Started
First-Time Setup
- Download and Extract
- Download PixelPal from itch.io
- Extract the archive to your desired location
- Ensure you have ~10GB free space
- Install Assets
- Download the
assetsfolder - Copy it to the main PixelPal directory
- This will sort out any missing files
- Download the
- Optional: Console ROMs Folder
- Download the optional Console ROMs Folder structure
- Place it where you want on your system
- Copy your legally obtained ROMs into the appropriate folders
- Launch PixelPal
- Run the executable:
./PixelPal(or double-click PixelPal.exe) - Configure your preferences in the Settings menu
- Run the executable:
- API Configuration
- Add your OpenRouter API key in settings
- Visit: https://openrouter.ai/keys (free tier available)
- Optional: Configure ElevenLabs for voice output
- Game Library Setup
- Use the Settings menu to configure your ROM directories
- Set up your favorite emulators
- Add your game collection

LEGAL & ETHICAL NOTICE:
When adding ROM files to your collection, it is ENTIRELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to obtain your own ROM files through legal and legitimate means.
I (Creator X) do NOT provide any ROM files with this platform. PixelPal serves as a launcher/interface for YOUR legally obtained ROM collection only.
Terms of Service
By using PixelPal, you agree to:
- Use the software only for personal, non-commercial purposes
- Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the software
- Not redistribute or sell the software
- Obtain all ROM files through legal means before adding them to your library
- Use external APIs (OpenRouter, ElevenLabs, etc.) at your own discretion and risk
- Understand that AI-generated content may not always be accurate
